E kū like kākou! Kūʻē Kaʻū!

ʻIewe Hānau o ka ʻĀina is a non-profit, community based organization that is dedicated to the protection and preservation of the natural and cultural resources of Kaʻū. With Punaluʻu being the catalyst, our purpose is work collaboratively with our community and supporters in the spirit of Kapu Aloha to Kūʻe (resist) any actions that are deemed detrimental to the health and wellbeing of Kaʻū’s people, places, practices, and our natural and cultural resources.

Please complete the membership interest form if you would like to become a member. An invoice for your annual membership will be emailed to you. Mahalo nui loa for your support!

  • All community members who support the mission of ʻIewe Hānau o ka ʻĀina are invited to become members. Members participate in monthly meetings, serve and support our Action Committees, and strive to demonstrate aloha and haʻahaʻa in the spirit of our kūpuna. Members may sign up their children (5-17) as a non-voting ʻōpio member for $5/year.

  • Members 18 years and older are able to run for elections to become a Board member or Officer. Members also serve on action committees to further our mission and objectives and help coordinate nominations and elections every 2 years.

  • Members commit to monthly meetings to collaborate, discuss ʻIHOKA business, collaborate and plan together, and develop and implement community engagement, outreach, and educational activities.

  • Action committees provide guidance and recommendations to the Board of Directors on activities and actions that support ʻIewe Hānau o ka ʻĀina's mission and objectives.

    Members are asked to join and actively support an action committee to help advance our efforts.
